City of Florence Sewer Infrastructure Installations

Problem & Requirements
The City of Florence Public Works department required a highly dependable contractor to handle multiple, precise sewer line extensions and lateral installations across various municipal locations. Because these projects involved working in established areas (including sites on Oceana Dr., 3rd Ave., and Meares St.), the city needed a team capable of performing complex directional drilling around existing underground utilities. A core requirement was strict adherence to the city's exacting municipal standards, alongside a need for swift, transparent communication regarding quotes, project scope, and scheduling to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, it was critical that the construction activities leave minimal impact on the surrounding public areas.
The Solution Implemented
Merra Construction partnered with the City of Florence to execute multiple directional drilling and sewer lateral installations. To meet the city's needs, Merra delivered an end-to-end service that prioritized clear communication and precise field execution. Key project scopes included: - Site 1 (4787 Oceana Dr.): Directional drilling for a pressurized sewer lateral installation spanning approximately 100 feet. - Site 2 (88179 3rd Ave.): Directional drilling for a pressurized sewer lateral installation covering approximately 170 feet. - Site 3 (4573 Meares St.): A comprehensive 2" pressurized sewer installation requiring full site setup, careful potholing of existing utilities to prevent damage, precise boring, and the successful pulling of 695 linear feet. Throughout these projects, Merra maintained fast and clear correspondence with the Public Works team, ensuring alignment on scheduling and project scope from the initial quote to final completion.
The Results
- ✓Merra successfully delivered on the City of Florence's high expectations, establishing themselves as a trusted municipal partner.
- Exacting Quality StandardsEvery phase of the directional drilling and pipe installation was executed in a timely manner and strictly adhered to the precise standards set by the Public Works department.
- Minimal Environmental Impact (Now vs. Then)By utilizing precise directional drilling techniques instead of expansive open trenching, Merra was able to install hundreds of feet of underground pipe while leaving a very minimal footprint. The surrounding areas looked largely undisturbed following project completion.
- Seamless Project ManagementThe fast, clear correspondence regarding quoting and scheduling eliminated administrative friction, resulting in an "excellent" start-to-finish experience for the city.
- Ongoing PartnershipBecause of the consistent success across multiple job sites, the City of Florence Public Works noted they would gladly do business with the Merra team in the future.
