Complex Utility Boring & Bridge Conduit Installation

Problem & Requirements
Byron DeVries required the installation of new underground power and fiber optic infrastructure at a property in Florence, Oregon. The project presented significant geographical and environmental challenges, requiring a contractor capable of navigating multiple directional turns, a bridge crossing, and difficult rocky soil conditions. The scope demanded approximately 710 linear feet of directional boring beneath both public rights-of-way and private property. Furthermore, the installation had to strictly comply with OSHA, county standards, and Central Lincoln PUD requirements, necessitating precise execution and careful site restoration.
The Solution Implemented
Merra stepped in to handle the complete utility boring and conduit installation, executing the comprehensive scope of work within a tight 3-day schedule. Merra addressed the project's unique challenges through meticulous planning and execution: - Complex Directional Boring: The team successfully navigated the rocky conditions and multiple turns, boring approximately 710 linear feet across public and private lines. - Infrastructure Placement: Crews installed 2" and 3" HDPE electrical conduit and 1.25" HDPE telecommunications conduit, along with necessary PE boxes, junction boxes, ground sleeves, and Hyak vaults. - Bridge Integration: Handled the specialized task of securely attaching 100 feet of conduit directly to an existing bridge structure. - Above-and-Beyond Restoration: Following the county-standard asphalt backfill, the team thoroughly cleaned the private property and took the extra step of seeding the disturbed natural areas.
The Results
- ✓Merra delivered a seamless utility deployment despite the demanding terrain and complex routing.
- Successful Obstacle NavigationThe team handled the rocky conditions, bridge crossing, and multiple directional turns with high professionalism and exceptional attention to detail, keeping the project on its 3-day timeline.
- Pristine Restoration (Now vs. Then)Before the project, the site required extensive excavation and boring pits. Afterward, Merra’s care in cleaning the property and proactively seeding the disturbed earth ensured the landscape was left in excellent condition, ready for natural regrowth.
- Client SatisfactionThe combination of technical expertise in challenging terrain and profound respect for the client's property resulted in the successful, safe deployment of critical power and fiber utilities, earning high praise for outstanding service and workmanship.
